Energy Systems Applications Engineer -Remote/WFH
25873 Energy Systems Applications Engineer -Remote/WFH Our client is a leading provider of engineered equipment solutions for processing, storing, distributing, and utilizing a wide variety of liquids and gases in the energy, renewables, chemical, and industrial end markets. Our diverse manufacturing and design portfolio includes ASME pressure vessels, API storage tanks, TEMA heat exchangers, packaged process equipment, reactors, distillation columns, and other custom designed applications. Their design, construction, and field service capabilities include gas processing, storage, and utilization projects in energy, power, industrial, and biogas markets. As they continue to improve their ESG profile, they are committed to investing in renewable energy technologies, providing complete engineered systems, and anticipate this will be an important part of their future growth. The Energy Systems Applications Engineer is a member of Corporate Shared Services Engineering team, focused on new product development (NPD) including system-level product development, and will help lead the move from supplying individual components to delivering complete engineered systems. Working with engineering, controls, and fabrication teams across the all the divisional companies, this role will focus on system-level engineering—how the system performs as a whole—for new product lines, beginning with Thermal Energy Storage (TES). The Systems Applications Engineer will define system requirements and sizing, develop and validate system designs, and support Sales and customers from early inquiry through commissioning, while helping build the methods, tools, and standards that allow these systems to be offered repeatably.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Engineering & Design : As part of the Shared Services team, develop system concepts and designs that integrate company products into complete solutions that meet customer performance requirements. Perform system-level engineering analysis, including fluid flow, stress analysis, thermal performance, and equipment sizing to establish and validate the design basis. Evaluate alternative system configurations and recommend the best solution based on performance, cost, reliability, and code requirements. Contribute to equipment specification and selection, and help define the interfaces between mechanical, electrical, and controls scopes. TES systems, design and optimization including diffusers, piping arrangements, valving, tank connections, and hydraulic systems to maintain thermal stratification across single- and multi-tank configurations. Develop instrumentation and controls strategies in coordination with the local controls teams. Applications & Customer Support : Partner with Sales and Business Development to qualify opportunities, review customer specifications, and develop technical proposals. Provide system-level technical support to Sales, customers, consulting engineers, and contractors. Define system performance criteria, testing, and commissioning procedures, and support field start-up to confirm systems perform as intended. Cross-Company Collaboration : Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and controls teams across the corporate divisions so their products work together as one system. Help translate system requirements into clear inputs for project and design teams and participate in design reviews. Work with external consultants and specialists, helping build that expertise into Corporate's internal capabilities. Product Platform Development : Participate in the Corporate NPD process, from concept and business case through design validation and launch. Help develop system design standards, specifications, and best practices for a repeatable product platform, with the flexibility to address different industries, applications, system sizes, and customer operating conditions. Identify additional markets and applications where corporate products can be offered as engineered systems. Stay current with industry codes, standards, technologies, and competitor offerings.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Energy Engineering or related field. Minimum of 5+ years of applications, systems, or process engineering experience. PE would be a plus. Experience with thermal energy storage, chilled-water plants, district energy, or HVAC central plant systems strongly preferred. Experience with engineered packaged equipment in a manufacturing or EPC environment. Strong foundation in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics, with the ability to apply them to complete systems. Knowledge of thermal stratification, diffuser design, hydraulic analysis, and multi-tank systems for TES applications is highly desired. Experience sizing and selecting system equipment such as pumps, valves, tanks, and instrumentation, and developing P&IDs. Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics software; CFD experience is a plus. Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., API, ASME, AWWA, ASHRAE). Understanding of control systems, including PLC/HMI/BAS integration and sequence-of-operation development. Collaborative team player with strong communication and presentation skills; able to work remotely within a cross-functional, multi-company engineering team. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
