If you're ready to build the future of finance alongside people who refuse to settle for "good enough," you belong here. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase. As a Forward Deployed Engineer reporting to the Office of the CTO, you'll embed directly with Coinbase's FP&A and Treasury organization to deliver AI-native automation across high-volume financial workflows. This group manages financial planning, resource allocation, and liquidity operations across 60+ global entities - and you'll be the engineer on the ground turning those complex processes into scalable, production-grade AI systems. You'll partner with Finance leadership to identify the highest-leverage automation opportunities, prototype rapidly, and ship solutions that set the standard for how non-technical orgs operate with AI at Coinbase. What you'll do: Embed with FP&A and Treasury stakeholders to develop ground-level workflow expertise and identify automation opportunities with the greatest business impact across period-end close, reconciliation, budgeting, forecasting, and treasury operations. Prototype and ship production-grade AI agents with built-in auditability, human-in-the-loop design, and guardrails that meet SOX compliance requirements from day one. Define the build-vs-buy strategy for Finance tooling, evaluating what to build internally versus integrate from partner teams (Agent Platform, Core Automation, Enterprise Automation) versus retire. Drive adoption of existing Coinbase AI infrastructure for Finance use cases, partnering cross-functionally to deploy proven solutions rather than rebuilding from scratch. Own the Finance automation roadmap alongside the VP of FP&A and Treasury, translating financial workflows into engineering requirements and surfacing technical constraints and tradeoffs early. Required Skills and Experience: 5+ years of backend software engineering with a track record of shipping production systems in ambiguous, greenfield environments where you operated as both architect and builder. Proven experience deploying LLM-based applications to production, including evaluation frameworks, hallucination guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design patterns. Demonstrated ability to embed with non-technical domain experts, rapidly internalize complex workflows, and translate them into engineering requirements and reusable primitives. Multi-agent orchestration experience - designing systems where multiple AI agents collaborate, hand off work, and escalate to humans appropriately. Comfort operating as a consultative, deployment-focused engineer who champions adoption of existing tools before building new ones, and who thrives in cross-functional environments with high ambiguity. Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
