About the Role

Come Near is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to lead the technical design and development of its highest-priority initiative: a personalized digital engagement platform. This role involves building and maintaining features across the frontend, APIs, data layer, and supporting infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong full stack development skills, practical experience with modern web technologies and cloud infrastructure, and the ability to work independently in a distributed team. You will collaborate with internal engineers and external vendors, contribute to technical decisions, and help ensure the platform remains reliable and performant during high-traffic events. Candidates are required to sign Come Near’s Statement of Faith, which aligns with the organization’s mission of inviting all people one step closer to the authentic Jesus, wherever they are.

Key Responsibilities

Build and deliver full stack features across the web platform, including the user interface, APIs, and data layer. Develop production code using Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui while following established architecture and technical standards. Implement and maintain caching, CDN, and edge configurations using Cloudflare, Vercel, or related platforms to support high-traffic events. Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot services within the organization’s AWS environment. Integrate with data and personalization pipelines while handling personal and sensitive user information according to established privacy and security practices. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback on code quality, performance, and maintainability. Work with vendor engineering teams on shared codebases, following established integration contracts and API patterns. Coordinate project handoffs and status updates with distributed colleagues and vendor engineers across time zones, using clear, asynchronous documentation. Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests. Investigate and resolve production issues, including problems that arise during high-traffic events. Document technical work through pull requests, runbooks, and contributions to team design documents.

Required Qualifications

At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building full stack web applications. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong hands-on experience with Next.js and React. Working knowledge of Tailwind CSS and component libraries such as shadcn/ui. Practical experience with caching strategies, CDN configuration, and edge platforms such as Cloudflare, Vercel, or comparable technologies. Working knowledge of AWS services used in modern web applications, such as S3, Lambda, RDS, and CloudFront. Experience writing and maintaining automated tests, including unit, integration, and/or end-to-end tests. Comfort working in shared codebases, reviewing other engineers’ code, and incorporating feedback on your own work. Strong full stack fundamentals, with the ability to work across frontend, API, and infrastructure concerns. Ability to deliver scoped tasks independently in a remote, asynchronous work environment. Clear written and technical communication, including the ability to explain implementation decisions, progress, and outstanding work. A practical, collaborative approach to development, with sound day-to-day implementation decisions and the ability to identify risks early. A personal relationship with Jesus and a commitment to Come Near’s mission.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with external agencies or vendor engineering teams. Exposure to analytics or event-tracking pipelines. Familiarity with integrating or using AI/ML-powered product features, rather than building models. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. Personal Attributes A service-oriented mindset, humility, and a collaborative approach to leadership. A proactive and detail-oriented approach to planning and execution. Openness to feedback, coaching, and guidance on architecture and technical standards. A willingness to deliver practical, maintainable software without unnecessary complexity. The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with distributed teams across time zones. Equal Opportunity / Statement of Faith Candidates for this role are required to sign Come Near’s Statement of Faith, which closely aligns with its mission of inviting all people one step closer to the authentic Jesus from wherever they are.
