Java Engineer, Sr.
About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join the AVAD team and support a high-priority platform initiative. The role involves working with mature Java systems, understanding the existing platform, maintaining and enhancing current services, and developing new services and features with a focus on future reuse and modernization. The team also works on personalization initiatives, making experience in this area beneficial but not required. Hands-on agentic development is a mandatory requirement. The selected candidate will use AI agents to generate, review, test, and refine code while working within a small, highly experienced engineering team. This is a fully remote, six-month contract with strong potential for extension. Overlap with Pacific Time working hours is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and support Java-based AVAD systems within a mature platform and established codebase Build new services and add features to existing services, focusing on reuse and modernization Balance ongoing platform support with forward-looking development Contribute to personalization-related projects when appropriate Apply agentic development workflows to generate, review, test, and refine code Collaborate with a small, highly experienced engineering team
Required Qualifications
Senior-level software engineering experience with strong production-level Java skills Experience building new services and enhancing existing applications within mature codebases Hands-on agentic development experience using AI agents to actively produce and iterate on code Ability to explain a repeatable agentic workflow, from task definition through code generation, review, testing, and integration Interest in AI-enabled engineering and readiness to work within a required agentic development model
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AVAD workflows or platforms Background in advertising-based streaming or video platforms Experience with personalization or recommendation systems Experience modernizing mature Java systems Experience building reusable services or platform components Location and Work Arrangement Fully remote position Pacific Time overlap preferred Employment Type and Contract Duration Six-month contract with strong potential for extension W-2 and Corp-to-Corp consultants accepted
Compensation and Benefits
W-2 hourly rate: $75–$85 W-2 consultants receive a benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company matching, and life insurance.
