Python Engineer - Remote
About the Company
Turing is an AGI infrastructure company that works with leading AI research labs to accelerate model development through high-quality training data, evaluations, and engineering talent.
About the Role
Turing is seeking a Remote Python Engineer to support AI training data and evaluation workflows. The role combines software engineering with preference data review, rubric development, and quality assessment. You will help establish evaluation criteria, identify subtle data quality issues, and build the pipelines and infrastructure needed to support data generation, collection, and evaluation. The ideal candidate has strong Python skills, practical experience with preference data or rubric creation, and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly. You should be comfortable working through ambiguous problems, collaborating with researchers and engineers, and delivering solutions in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, refine, and improve rubrics and evaluation criteria for preference data. Review and label data carefully, identifying subtle quality issues that may otherwise go unnoticed. Build and maintain pipelines and infrastructure for data generation, collection, and evaluation workflows. Summarize findings from data-related work in clear written reports, project updates, and actionable recommendations. Collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate qualitative judgments into consistent, scalable processes. Assess data quality and explain the reasoning behind decisions about what makes an example effective or ineffective.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in Python, particularly for building and maintaining pipelines and infrastructure, or TypeScript. Hands-on experience with preference data collection, rubric creation, or both. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn complex technical work into concise, actionable summaries. Sound judgment when evaluating quality and the ability to explain why an example meets or falls short of expectations. Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and prioritize practical execution. Preferred Qualifications / Requirements Experience contributing to or navigating large TypeScript codebases, such as Visual Studio Code (VSCode), is a plus. Experience collaborating with AI researchers and engineers on data quality, evaluation criteria, or scalable workflows is relevant to the position.
