Remote Position

[Remote] Human Resources Manager

🌍 Remote · United States 💼 Full-time

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. VERSA AI develops conversational AI and virtual-agent technology that helps enterprises deliver scalable customer interactions across voice and chat channels. The Human Resources Manager will build and operate the company’s People function, including HR systems, payroll, compliance, benefits, policies, employee relations, recruiting operations, and culture foundations across multiple countries.

Responsibilities

  • Own payroll across our geographies, accurate, on-time, compliant payroll runs across all geos (including superannuation and local tax obligations)
  • Administer the HRIS day to day once it's live: setting up new hires, maintaining accurate employee records and org data, and managing changes, leave, and offboarding
  • Run performance management: set up and operate our review and goal-setting cycles, support managers in giving effective feedback, and connect performance to development and compensation
  • Own compensation operations: help establish pay bands, run comp reviews, and structure offers consistently across regions
  • Be the trusted first point of contact for employee questions and day-to-day employee relations
  • Lead the implementation of and migration to Rippling as our single global HR platform, replacing our current set of systems
  • Own the full project: data migration, configuration, integrations (payroll, benefits, etc.), and rollout to the team
  • Assess our current arrangements and transition employees currently on EORs onto the right long-term structures
  • Own our relationships with EOR/PEO providers (including in Spain) and make sure they're set up correctly and cost-effectively
  • Keep us compliant in the US (federal and multi-state) and Australia (Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, modern awards, superannuation, payroll tax, leave entitlements)
  • Provide oversight of compliance handled through our EOR in Spain, and get ahead of requirements in any new geographies we hire into
  • Review and harmonize benefits across regions, and manage the transitions that come with our systems and structure changes with minimal disruption to the team
  • Write our foundational policy stack from scratch: employee handbook, leave, remote/flexible work, code of conduct, performance, and more
  • Stand up core HR operations: onboarding and offboarding, contracts and offer letters across geos, employee records, and a reliable "front door" for HR questions
  • Partner with leadership to articulate and codify our values, culture, and how we operate as a distributed team while making sure our practices actually reflect them
  • Bring structure to our recruiting operations and offer/contract processes so we can hire well and fast across regions

Skills

  • 8+ years in HR / People Operations, including significant time as a hands-on generalist owning the function as a team of one (or building a small team from scratch)
  • Direct, hands-on experience implementing or migrating an HRIS
  • Strong, hands-on US employment compliance experience, including multi-state as the US is where a lot of team growth will be
  • Deep expertise in at least one employment jurisdiction, plus the resourcefulness to get up to speed quickly in others and the judgment to know when to lean on local counsel and/or local HR agencies
  • Interest and resourcefulness are required as you will own Australian compliance
  • Genuine comfort operating in a multi-country, multi-entity environment, including working with EOR/PEO models
  • Experience administering benefits and managing benefits transitions
  • A track record of building HR from the ground up in a startup or scale-up — comfortable with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and wearing many hats
  • A genuine doer - someone who ships, follows through, and gets into the detail — not someone who only advises
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and communication
  • Rippling experience is strongly preferred
  • Australian experience is a strong plus given our team there; direct familiarity is welcome but not required
  • Experience helping a company scale from ~15 to 50–100+ people
  • Hands-on payroll experience across multiple countries
  • Experience managing the US Visa process as our CEO and Head of Ops will be moving to the US (we utilize a third party law firm for the petition process)
  • Relevant certification (SHRM, CIPD, AHRI, or equivalent)
  • Experience with EOR setups, or entity establishment
