[Remote] QA Engineer - Web & JavaScript

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. 5V Video is a profitable, growing video technology company that powers personalized and interactive video experiences across web, mobile, and connected TVs. The Senior QA Engineer will own end-to-end quality for web-based products and a JavaScript platform through manual and automated testing, while improving QA processes, automation strategy, and release readiness.

Responsibilities

• Owning end-to-end QA for web-based products, including manual, exploratory, functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing across browsers and environments
• Developing comprehensive test plans and test cases, identifying edge cases and risks early in the development lifecycle
• Designing, building, and maintaining automated tests in JavaScript/TypeScript using frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO
• Determining the right balance of manual and automated testing and continually improving coverage, reliability, and efficiency
• Integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and troubleshooting failures, distinguishing application defects from test or environmental issues
• Reading and understanding application code to build effective tests, investigate defects, and collaborate directly with engineers
• Testing and troubleshooting REST APIs, network requests, browser behavior, and backend services
• Using databases and SQL to validate application behavior and investigate data issues across the stack
• Investigating complex issues with browser developer tools, logs, and network inspection, and providing detailed, reproducible bug reports
• Participating in sprint planning, refinement, release planning, and retrospectives, helping assess release readiness and risk
• Helping define and improve QA processes, automation strategy, testing standards, and quality metrics in partnership with the Head of QA
• Acting as a technical QA leader who helps the organization scale its engineering and QA practices

Skills

• 5+ years of professional QA/software testing experience, with significant experience testing web applications
• Strong hands-on experience with both manual testing and test automation
• Strong experience testing JavaScript-based web applications
• Proficiency with at least one modern web automation framework such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium/WebDriver, or WebdriverIO
• Ability to write and maintain automated tests in JavaScript or TypeScript
• Strong understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, browser behavior, asynchronous operations, and client/server architecture
• Hands-on experience with databases and SQL for data validation and troubleshooting
• Experience with Git/GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong debugging skills across the frontend, backend, APIs, and data layer
• Solid grounding in QA methodologies, including regression, exploratory, and risk-based testing
• Prior technical leadership, mentoring, or experience building QA processes is strongly preferred
• Experience testing complex JavaScript/TypeScript applications or SDKs is a plus
• Experience with cloud-based applications and distributed systems is a plus
• Experience in video, streaming, interactive media, or high-traffic consumer applications is a plus
