[Remote] Sr. Analyst, Finance

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Petco is a leading company in the pet supplies industry, dedicated to improving the lives of pets and their owners. They are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to support strategic decision-making through financial planning, profitability analysis, and performance optimization across their retail business.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial planning processes including annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning for a business unit/category
• Analyze cost of goods sold, sales, margins, inventory, and promotional performance to provide actionable insights
• Own product costing analysis, including tracking changes in cost of goods sold (COGS), vendor pricing, and landed costs
• Partner with merchandising and operations teams to evaluate pricing strategies, assortment decisions, and vendor funding opportunities
• Monitor key retail KPIs such as comparable sales, gross margin, inventory turns, and sell-through
• Develop and maintain financial models to support business initiatives, new store openings, and category performance
• Conduct variance analysis vs. plan, forecast, and prior year; clearly communicate drivers and risks
• Support month-end close process, including accruals, reporting, and reconciliations
• Create and present executive-level reporting and dashboards
• Identify process improvement opportunities and drive automation in reporting and forecasting
• Provide ad hoc analysis to support strategic initiatives and senior leadership decisions

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
• 4–7+ years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in retail, consumer goods, or e-commerce
• Strong understanding of retail financial metrics (margin, markdowns, inventory productivity, etc.)
• Advanced Excel skills (financial modeling, pivot tables, complex formulas); experience with financial systems and BI tools (Looker, Power BI)
• Experience working with large datasets and translating data into insights
• Strong business partnering and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with merchandising finance or category finance
• Familiarity with retail systems (MicroStrategy, Oracle, Bamboo Rose)
• SQL or data analytics experience is a plus
