Senior Customer Success Manager – R&D Tax Credit & Software Capitalization Solutions at brighthush
About brighthush
brighthush is a trailblazing AI‑driven platform that transforms how modern software companies capture and capitalize on the full value of their research and development activities. By seamlessly integrating with the tools engineering teams already use—such as Jira, GitHub, and other popular development ecosystems—brighthush automates the entire lifecycle of R&D tax credit analysis and ASC 350‑40 software capitalization. The result is a rigorous, audit‑ready study that eliminates the manual interviews and guesswork that traditionally plague tax and finance teams, while keeping tax provisions tightly aligned with actual product outcomes. Our mission is simple: empower technology companies to focus on building great products, while we handle the complex, data‑heavy work that unlocks hidden value in every line of code.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a seasoned Customer Success Manager to become the trusted partner for our growing portfolio of high‑growth software customers. In this role, you will own the entire post‑sale journey—from onboarding and data integration to ongoing value realization, renewal, and expansion. You will be the primary liaison between finance, tax, and engineering stakeholders, translating complex data sets into clear, actionable insights that drive business decisions. If you thrive in a fast‑paced SaaS environment, love working with data, and enjoy turning technical concepts into plain‑spoken stories for executives, brighthush offers you a chance to shape the future of customer success in a niche, high‑impact industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Onboarding Excellence – Lead the end‑to‑end customer onboarding process, including connecting Jira and GitHub, collecting payroll and cost data, and establishing a realistic timeline for the first R&D study or capitalization cycle.
- Account Rhythm Management – Drive the regular cadence of account activities: monthly capitalization updates, data refreshes, and annual R&D study and filing deadlines.
- Issue Resolution & Collaboration – Serve as the go‑to contact for any data or integration challenges, working closely with our tax, engineering, and solutions teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues swiftly.
- Executive Communication – Translate technical and tax findings into concise, compelling narratives for CFOs, controllers, tax directors, and external CPAs.
- Health & Risk Monitoring – Track account health metrics, usage patterns, and early warning signs to proactively mitigate churn risks.
- Renewal & Expansion Leadership – Own the renewal process and identify cross‑sell opportunities, such as adding software capitalization services for existing R&D credit customers.
- Product Feedback Loop – Capture customer insights and pain points, feeding them back to the product team to refine features and create scalable playbooks and documentation.
Essential Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in customer success, account management, or implementation roles within a B2B SaaS organization, preferably serving finance or accounting teams.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and data reconciliation—comfortable handling messy payroll or cost files and integrating APIs.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex tax or technical concepts into clear, executive‑friendly language.
- Demonstrated track record of managing multiple accounts and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong ownership mindset: treating retention and renewals as personal metrics of success.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands‑on knowledge of U.S. R&D tax credit (IRC §41) and ASC 350‑40 software capitalization, or experience in public accounting.
- Experience working with Jira, GitHub, and other development tooling ecosystems.
- Prior exposure to data‑driven SaaS products that automate financial or tax processes.
- Experience in a high‑growth startup environment where you helped shape customer success strategies from the ground up.
Skills & Competencies
- Data‑savvy: Excel, Google Sheets, and data visualization tools.
- Technical curiosity: Comfortable learning new APIs, data pipelines, and integration workflows.
- Strategic thinking: Ability to see the big picture while managing day‑to‑day operational details.
- Relationship building: Proven ability to build trust with finance, tax, and engineering stakeholders.
- Problem‑solving: Quick to diagnose issues and collaborate across teams to find solutions.
- Adaptability: Thrive in a dynamic, evolving product environment.
