Role Overview

As the first Customer Marketing Manager at brighthush, you will own the entire customer marketing strategy and execute it hands‑on. Your mission is to turn our installed base into a predictable source of expansion pipeline and a deep bench of customer advocates. You will partner with Expansion Sales, Customer Success, Product Marketing, Campaigns, and Demand Generation to create scalable, high‑impact programs that drive upgrades, cross‑sell, upsell, and advocacy.

Reporting directly to the VP of Marketing, you will operate in a builder‑and‑doer capacity, setting strategy, launching programs, and measuring results—all while collaborating with cross‑functional teams. This role requires a strategic thinker who can also roll up their sleeves and deliver tangible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive Expansion Pipeline – Own the self‑serve‑to‑Enterprise upgrade motion, scale the pilot into an always‑on program, and continuously optimize for performance.
  • Build Enterprise Expansion Programs – Design one‑to‑many campaigns in partnership with Expansion Sales, including cross‑sell and upsell plays, targeted nurtures, and sales‑ready offers.
  • Adapt Major Campaigns for Customer Audiences – Work with Campaigns to tailor brand‑wide launches so that existing customers hear the right story at the right moment.
  • Provide Sales Enablement – Deliver timing, messaging, and assets that empower Expansion Sales to act on signals from your programs.
  • Localize for EMEA – Adapt expansion and lifecycle programs for European customers, adjusting messaging, timing, channels, and events to regional nuances (≈15 % of effort).
  • Fuel Adoption with CS & Product Marketing – Build lifecycle programs that help Customer Success move customers to value, including onboarding, feature‑adoption emails, webinars, and launch communications.
  • Turn Features into Campaigns – Collaborate with Product Marketing to translate new product releases into customer‑facing campaigns that drive usage.
  • Design Lifecycle Journeys – Build and maintain journeys in our marketing automation platform, working with Marketing Ops on complex builds and attribution.
  • Build Customer Data Foundation – Partner with Marketing Ops and CS to develop segments and scores that determine program eligibility and timing.
  • Launch Advocacy Engine – Create and run a customer advocacy program that produces speakers for events, case studies, references, and referrals.
  • Run Review & Reputation Programs – Drive a review program on G2 and similar sites to strengthen our competitive positioning.
  • Organize Customer Events & Advisory Board – Launch and run a Customer Advisory Board, plan customer‑focused events, and host user groups.

Success Metrics

  • Expansion Pipeline – Pipeline sourced and influenced by your programs, tracked separately for self‑serve upgrades and Enterprise expansion.
  • Adoption Impact – Engagement with adoption programs and subsequent feature activation.
  • Advocacy Outcomes – Number of case studies published, customer speaking engagements, review volume, and ratings.

What You'll Do in the First 90 Days

  • Take ownership of the upgrade pilot and refine the program based on early data.
  • Define the 2027 customer marketing plan, aligning with sales and product roadmaps.
  • Partner with Expansion Sales to launch quick‑win expansion initiatives and generate early pipeline.
  • Establish baseline metrics and reporting dashboards for all customer marketing programs.

Essential Qualifications

  • 6+ years of B2B SaaS marketing experience, with at least 3 years focused on customer, lifecycle, or expansion marketing.
  • Proven track record of owning an expansion pipeline or revenue metric, not just engagement.
  • Hands‑on experience creating and executing a full customer marketing plan from ideation to measurement.
  • Strong partnership skills with Ops and CS to build customer segments and scores based on product usage, CRM, and CS data.
  • Experience running advocacy programs (case studies, references, reviews, advisory boards).
  • Credibility with sales and CS leaders, and the ability to translate their input into actionable programs.
  • Data‑savvy: ability to define metrics, work with Ops on attribution, and communicate insights.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills that resonate with customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high‑growth, tech‑focused startup environment.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot) and analytics tools.
  • Background in building and scaling customer advocacy engines.
  • Experience working with EMEA customers and localizing programs for international audiences.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic thinking with a bias for execution.
  • Project management and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Strong analytical mindset and data‑driven decision making.
  • Creative storytelling and copywriting.
  • Adaptability to a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

At brighthush, we believe in nurturing talent from within. As the first Customer Marketing Manager, you will set the foundation for the entire customer marketing function. Over time, you can evolve into a Director of Customer Marketing, Head of Customer Success Marketing, or even a Chief Marketing Officer role. We provide:

  • Mentorship from senior leaders across marketing, sales, and product.
  • Access to industry conferences, workshops, and training programs.
  • Internal mobility into product, sales, or demand generation teams.
  • Regular performance reviews with clear career pathways.

Work Environment & Culture

brighthush is a fully distributed organization that values autonomy, collaboration, and transparency. We operate on a flexible schedule, but this role requires alignment with East Coast business hours to support our North American sales and customer success teams. Our culture is built on:

  • Open communication channels across all levels.
  • Regular virtual town halls and team‑building events.
  • Inclusive decision‑making that welcomes diverse perspectives.
  • Continuous feedback loops and a growth mindset.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $150,000 – $180,000 per year (depending on experience, location, and market). This range does not include equity or other company‑wide benefits.

Benefits (for U.S. full‑time employees; international benefits may vary):

  • Competitive, market‑rate salary.
  • Stock options with a 4‑year vesting schedule.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (90 % covered for employees and dependents).
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • 401(k) with profit sharing.
  • Unlimited paid time off (with an expectation of taking at least 3 weeks annually) plus 20 company holidays.
  • Remote‑friendly environment with monthly WFH stipend.
  • Parental leave: 16 weeks primary, 12 weeks secondary.
  • Short‑ and long‑term disability and life insurance coverage.
  • Choice of laptop computer.
  • Internal mobility and growth opportunities.
  • And more.
