Senior Microsoft 365 Migration Consultant Domestic M&A / Surge Support Company: Aberdeen Advisors Location: Remote, with ability to work Central/Eastern Time hours Engagement type: Contract with potential for extension and/or conversion Commitment: Surge support; expected hours and availability windows to be discussed About the opportunity Aberdeen Advisors is seeking an experienced Microsoft 365 migration consultant to support smaller domestic acquisitions for a professional services client. This role will provide additional technical capacity across migration planning and execution. You will help the IT M&A team identify risks, prepare incoming firms for integration, and deliver migrations as demand increases. The ideal candidate brings the experience to advise confidently and the technical depth to execute independently. What you’ll do Assess Microsoft 365 migration requirements and readiness for incoming domestic firms. Identify dependencies, technical risks, and constraints that could affect migration schedules or user experience. Help develop practical migration plans, checklists, runbooks, and validation procedures. Execute migration activities and troubleshoot issues before, during, and after cutover. Anticipate and manage challenges such as throttling, throughput limitations, permissions, and identity dependencies. Coordinate with the IT M&A team, project managers, and other migration specialists to support changing delivery needs. Document outcomes and share repeatable practices that improve subsequent migrations. What you bring Proven hands-on experience delivering Microsoft 365 migrations, including tenant-to-tenant migrations. The ability to assess an unfamiliar environment quickly and recommend a practical path forward. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 workloads and their dependencies, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and Microsoft Entra ID. Experience using migration tools and resolving migration failures or performance constraints. The ability to move between planning, execution, and troubleshooting as project needs change. Clear communication, reliable follow-through, and strong documentation skills. Helpful experience M&A integrations involving multiple smaller organizations. Consulting or project delivery across concurrent migrations. PowerShell scripting and migration automation. Experience standardizing migration procedures across acquired firms.
