Role Overview
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Customer Developer Experience (DevX) team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our external developer community and our internal engineering organization. You’ll own the strategy, execution, and quality of the open‑source tooling, libraries, and documentation that power the next generation of retail experiences worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product, Customer Success, Data Science, and other Engineering teams to prioritize features and solve customer pain points.
- Balance hands‑on integration support with long‑term tooling development, ensuring that both immediate customer needs and platform scalability are met.
- Drive the end‑to‑end hiring process: build a strong pipeline, conduct interviews, and secure top engineering talent.
- Mentor and coach engineers to foster growth, provide constructive feedback, and remove obstacles.
- Set technical direction, tooling standards, and testing practices to maintain a high bar for quality.
- Lead the development of cutting‑edge TypeScript/React UI libraries that enable developers to build rich, responsive retail experiences.
- Champion developer experience (DevX) by delivering intuitive tools, comprehensive documentation, and reference examples that shorten time‑to‑value for external integrators.
Strategic Leadership & Collaboration
Work closely with Product, Customer Success, and Data Science to translate customer feedback into actionable engineering initiatives. Own the prioritization framework that balances short‑term support with long‑term platform growth.
Team Management & Growth
Recruit, hire, and onboard high‑potential engineers. Conduct regular one‑on‑ones, performance reviews, and career development plans. Foster a culture of ownership, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
Open‑Source Advocacy
Guide the creation, maintenance, and community engagement of TypeScript/React libraries. Ensure that open‑source contributions adhere to best practices, are well‑documented, and receive timely feedback from the developer community.
Developer Experience Excellence
Define and enforce DevX standards across tooling, documentation, and support. Create reference implementations, tutorials, and sandbox environments that enable developers to integrate quickly and confidently.
Quality & Technical Excellence
Establish rigorous testing, code review, and CI/CD pipelines. Champion performance, security, and accessibility best practices across all deliverables.
Essential Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of web development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, React, and TypeScript (or a strong willingness to learn).
- Deep understanding of modern web architecture, component design, and state management.
- Experience managing cross‑functional teams and coordinating with product, design, and data science.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to triage complex issues and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable speaking to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- English fluency at C1 level (CEFR) or higher.
- Availability to attend regular meetings between 2 pm and 8 pm UTC.
- Passion for building high‑impact products in a fast‑moving startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience with open‑source projects, including library maintenance or community engagement.
- Background in building developer tools, SDKs, or API platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, Playwright) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance optimization techniques.
- Prior experience in a remote‑first organization or managing distributed teams.
Skills & Competencies
- Leadership & Mentorship: Inspire teams, provide constructive feedback, and create growth opportunities.
- Strategic Thinking: Translate business goals into engineering roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
- Customer‑Centric Mindset: Advocate for external developers and internal stakeholders alike.

- Communication: Articulate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- Adaptability: Thrive in a rapidly evolving environment and pivot when necessary.
- Collaboration: Build strong relationships across product, design, data science, and support.
