Looking for a senior or staff backend engineer to build AI-assisted answers into a search product used by a large audience. You will own this end to end, from first design to production, in a backend spanning Perl, Go and Node.js. What you'll do Build AI-assisted answers into search, from retrieval and prompting to evaluation and rollout Own your work end to end: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring and iteration Work across backend services written in Perl, Go and Node.js Set up and run eval frameworks so changes to models and prompts are measured, not guessed Make product and technical tradeoffs and explain them clearly to the team Mentor senior engineers and raise the bar on how the team builds You 7+ years building backend systems that power a user-facing product Hands-on with AI agent tooling: eval frameworks, RAG pipelines, prompt engineering Fundamental understanding of complex data structures and algorithms Strong in at least one of Perl, Go or Node.js, and happy to work across all three Experience mentoring senior engineers Good product acumen, you understand what users need and can make tradeoffs when necessary Clear written and spoken communication, you work well in a distributed team A track record of owning systems end to end Compensation and benefits Compensation: Up to $185k per year, the same regardless of where you live Unlimited PTO No core working hours, around 40 hours a week on average Flexible hours, organize your day around your life End to end ownership of what you build To apply https://matcha.fm/apply/bee
