SQL Database Administrator
Position Description Summary: Tuba Group is seeking a Mid-Level SQL Database Administrator to provide day-to-day administration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, development support, and operational support for GPO SQL database environments. The position will work with senior database administrators and GPO technical personnel to maintain standalone and clustered SQL Server environments, support application teams, resolve ServiceNow requests and incidents, execute approved changes, and help maintain reliable and secure database services. The Mid-Level SQL DBA will provide hands-on technical support for Microsoft SQL Server and associated database environments. The individual will configure and maintain database systems, perform troubleshooting and performance analysis, support backup/recovery and HA/DR activities, execute maintenance and patching, build scripts and automation, monitor database health, and work with customers and application teams to resolve database-related issues. Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Support SQL Cluster and standalone SQL environments.
- Perform routine database configuration and provisioning.
- Execute database maintenance and approved RFCs.
- Manage ServiceNow incidents and service requests.
- Perform troubleshooting and error triage.
- Support database software installation and patching.
- Conduct backup and restore activities.
- Participate in HA/DR testing and failover activities.
- Perform query and index tuning.
- Monitor database capacity, availability, and performance.
- Use Idera and SolarWinds monitoring tools.
- Assist customers in building and configuring SQL databases.
- Troubleshoot application/database integrations.
- Develop scripts and automate recurring DBA activities.
- Maintain technical procedures and runbooks.
- Participate in root-cause analysis.
- Support scheduled after-hours maintenance.
- Produce weekly activity reports.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of database administration experience.
- Microsoft SQL Server administration.
- SQL scripting.
- SQL Server clustering.
- Database backup and recovery.
- Database patching and maintenance.
- SQL performance tuning.
- Monitoring and alerting.
- HA/DR fundamentals and implementation.
- ServiceNow or comparable ITSM experience.
- Scripting and automation.
- Experience with on-premises and/or cloud databases.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and MS Access advantageous.
- Ability to lead routine troubleshooting efforts.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline preferred
- Microsoft SQL/database certification preferred
