Remote Position

Tax Preparer / Staff Accountant — Full-Time, Year-Round

🌍 Remote · United States 💼 Full-time

Jones Taxes & Financial Services, LLC is a growing, family-owned CPA firm known as “The Accountants That Care.” We help childcare owners and other business owners understand their finances, meet their tax obligations, and make informed decisions for their companies and families. Our clients are not account numbers, and our employees are not simply people filling seats. We are seeking a dependable, thoughtful tax professional who enjoys solving problems, communicating with clients, and taking ownership of their work. This is a full-time, year-round position—not a seasonal role. Tax preparation is the primary responsibility, with bookkeeping and accounting support throughout the year.

Responsibilities

Prepare business and individual tax returns, primarily Forms 1120-S, 1065, and 1040, including Schedules C and E. Review client documents, organizers, prior-year returns, financial statements, and internal notes. Identify missing information, conflicting amounts, and unusual changes that require clarification. Prepare organized workpapers supporting the amounts reported on returns. Research tax questions and document findings. Communicate with clients to obtain information and move assignments forward. Complete assigned bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and accounting corrections in QuickBooks Online. Review your work before submitting it and address reviewer feedback thoroughly. Keep tasks, notes, next steps, and deadlines current in TaxDome. Communicate questions, delays, and workload concerns before deadlines are missed. What Success Looks Like Here We provide training, established processes, and access to support. We also expect you to bring a working foundation in tax preparation. You should be comfortable investigating discrepancies, explaining your work, and asking thoughtful questions when something is unclear. Prior-year amounts and software diagnostics are useful tools, but they do not replace supporting documentation and sound judgment. Ready for review means you have completed your preparation and self-review, organized the supporting workpapers, and clearly documented any specific issues requiring a reviewer’s decision. The right person follows through, accepts feedback professionally, and applies what they learn to future assignments.

Qualifications

Required: At least two years of paid tax preparation experience. Experience preparing individual returns and business returns, including Forms 1120-S and/or 1065, from supporting records, subject to supervisory review. Accounting degree, CPA or EA credential, or progress toward a relevant credential. Experience with childcare businesses, Form 990, IRS notices, or tax resolution. A CPA license is not required. Demonstrated preparation skills, judgment, and follow-through matter. Compensation, Schedule, and Benefits Annual compensation of $45,000–$50,000, depending on experience. Full-time, year-round employment. Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Eastern, including a scheduled meal break. Formal performance review after 90 days.
