About the Role
Maximus is seeking a Software Developer (Backend) to support backend design and development for USAF mission systems. The role focuses on building and maintaining backend architectures, developing RESTful APIs, managing databases, and optimizing data models to support existing and new system capabilities. The successful candidate will apply software engineering expertise to process improvement, specialized studies, requirements definition, system testing, and integration efforts. This position requires experience with cloud environments, DevSecOps practices, microservices, container technologies, and secure application deployments. The role is remote, requires an active TS/SCI clearance, and is contingent upon contract award.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop backend architectures to support current and future system capabilities. Develop, modify, and maintain RESTful APIs and system integrations. Manage databases and develop and optimize data models. Apply analytical skills to support process improvement, specialized studies, and requirements definition. Perform backend engineering tasks using object-oriented and scripting languages. Prepare, conduct, and document system testing activities. Test web-based applications and track software defects using tools such as Jira. Support software development programs and projects using DevSecOps practices, microservices, and container technologies. Develop and maintain applications in cloud environments. Integrate data across unclassified and classified application deployments. Use Jenkins and GitLab to support software development and delivery workflows. Work with relevant development and testing tools, including NPM, Cypress.io, esbuild, Bun, Apache Tomcat, Maven, and SonarQube. Support infrastructure and application environments involving AWS, Kubernetes, and Red Hat Linux. Contribute to secure, reliable backend systems and maintain alignment with technical requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at least seven years of overall experience in the functional area. A master's degree may substitute for two years of experience. At least seven years of software development experience with object-oriented and scripting languages, DevSecOps, microservices, and container tool suites. Demonstrated experience preparing, conducting, and documenting system tests. At least three years of experience with bug-tracking software, such as Jira, and testing web-based applications. At least three years of experience participating in software development programs or projects. Practical experience developing in a cloud environment. Experience integrating data from unclassified to classified application deployments. At least five years of experience with Jenkins and GitLab. At least five years of experience with at least five of the following tools: NPM, Cypress.io, esbuild, Bun, Apache Tomcat, Maven, and SonarQube. At least three years of recent backend web design and development experience. Demonstrated experience with relational databases, RESTful API development and communication, and system integrations. At least three years of experience with AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, and Red Hat Linux. Active TS/SCI security clearance and the ability to obtain a CI Polygraph. DCWF Code: 632 Intermediate.
Preferred Qualifications
CSSLP certification. CompTIA Security+ certification. Location and Work Arrangement Work arrangement: Remote. Travel: May require travel to a site 10–20% of the time.
