Content Writer - 100% Remote
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Content Writer – Multicultural Resource Guides to develop educational materials for diverse multicultural communities. This remote, part-time contract position requires approximately 15–20 hours per week, with the contract running from ASAP through mid-2027. The writer will transform existing research, reports, and educational materials into clear, accessible, and culturally relevant resource guides. The content will address topics such as Social Security, aging, caregiving, and financial security, with a focus on helping individuals and families understand how these subjects relate to their lives. Target audiences include Hispanic/Latino, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other multicultural communities. The ideal candidate combines strong consumer-facing writing skills with an understanding of cultural considerations, family dynamics, and the informational needs of diverse audiences. This role requires more than summarizing research or translating text; it involves adapting information so that it is practical, respectful, inclusive, and meaningful to each intended community.
Key Responsibilities
Develop approximately 10-page educational resource guides using existing research, reports, and supporting materials. Translate complex subjects, including Social Security, aging, caregiving, and financial security, into clear, concise, consumer-friendly language. Create informative and actionable content that helps individuals and families understand important topics and apply the information to their circumstances. Organize content logically to support readability, accessibility, and ease of use. Maintain consistent formatting, messaging, and quality across multiple resource guides. Adapt research and existing educational materials into practical resources rather than simply summarizing or reproducing the source content. Tailor messaging, examples, context, and resources to the needs and experiences of specific multicultural communities. Ensure content is culturally relevant, respectful, inclusive, and appropriate for each target audience. Consider community-specific family structures, communication preferences, experiences, and informational needs when developing content. Incorporate practical examples that demonstrate how broader topics affect individuals, families, and communities. Collaborate with community experts to validate the accuracy, relevance, and cultural appropriateness of materials. Review and synthesize research, reports, educational resources, and supporting information to identify the most relevant content for each audience. Simplify complex concepts without compromising factual accuracy or essential context. Identify information gaps and work with project stakeholders to obtain clarification or additional information. Work with the hiring manager, project contributors, and community subject matter experts throughout the development process. Participate in periodic project meetings, expected to occur approximately once per week. Contribute to content reviews and quality assurance activities focused on accuracy, clarity, consistency, and cultural relevance. Incorporate stakeholder feedback, revise drafts as needed, and follow the shared guide format and content development approach. Collaborate with other contributors to exchange insights, recommendations, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
Professional experience in content writing, educational communications, health communications, multicultural communications, or a closely related field. Strong experience creating consumer-facing content using plain-language writing principles. Demonstrated ability to create or adapt content for specific multicultural communities or diverse audiences. Experience translating complex research, technical information, policies, or educational subjects into accessible, easy-to-understand content. Understanding of the cultural context, needs, and considerations of intended audiences. Strong research, writing, editing, proofreading, and information-synthesis skills. Experience developing educational materials, resource guides, toolkits, informational publications, or other long-form content. Ability to maintain accuracy while simplifying complex information. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders. Ability to manage deadlines and deliver high-quality work within an established project framework.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience creating content specifically for Hispanic/Latino, Chinese, Vietnamese, or other multicultural communities. Bilingual or multilingual proficiency, particularly in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or other languages relevant to the target audiences. Language proficiency is beneficial but not required; demonstrated ability to create relevant content for multicultural audiences is more important. Background in public health communications, community education, nonprofit communications, social services, or multicultural outreach. Familiarity with topics relevant to older adults and their families, including Social Security, Medicare, caregiving, retirement planning, and financial well-being. Experience supporting nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, community-based organizations, or public service initiatives. Knowledge of health literacy, accessibility, inclusive communications, and culturally responsive writing practices. Experience working with community subject matter experts or culturally diverse stakeholder groups. Experience developing materials for underserved or historically underrepresented populations.
