Director of Project Planning

Role Description The Director of Technical Programs is a full-time, remote role responsible for leading end-to-end planning, execution, and delivery of complex technical initiatives. This role oversees cross-functional program and project portfolios, aligning engineering, product, and business stakeholders around clear objectives, timelines, and resource plans. The director will define program structures, establish governance and reporting, manage risks and dependencies, and ensure technical projects are delivered on schedule and within scope. Daily responsibilities include partnering with technical leads on solution approaches, coordinating product development milestones, and ensuring IT strategy and software development efforts support broader organizational goals. The role also involves mentoring program and project managers, optimizing processes and tools, and communicating progress and outcomes to senior leadership.

Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in Program Management and Project Management, including leading large, cross-functional technical initiatives. Experience in Product Development, collaborating with product and engineering teams to define requirements and deliver high-quality solutions. Strong background in IT Strategy, with the ability to align technical programs with organizational priorities and long-term technology roadmaps. Hands-on familiarity with Software Development practices and lifecycle management, enabling effective partnership with engineering teams. Proven leadership skills in managing distributed teams, influencing stakeholders, and driving consensus across technical and non-technical groups. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to senior leaders. Experience implementing program management frameworks, metrics, and tools to improve transparency, predictability, and delivery outcomes. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems) or equivalent practical experience; advanced degree is a plus. Prior experience in a director-level or senior technical program management role within a technology-driven organization is strongly preferred.
