Dynamic Customer Engineering Associate – Championing Support, Data Operations, and HubSpot Excellence for a Rapidly Scaling AI Data Platform at brighthush
About brighthush
In the fast‑moving world of artificial intelligence, brighthush is carving out a niche that few can match. We’re not just building a product; we’re constructing the resilient, continuously refreshed data backbone that turns experimental AI agents into reliable, production‑ready partners. By delivering verified, high‑quality B2B data at scale, we empower autonomous AI agents and streamline go‑to‑market workflows for the world’s leading AI tools and platforms. Our growth trajectory is exponential, yet we’ve maintained 100 % gross dollar retention and a cash‑flow positive runway, proving that speed, focus, and customer obsession can coexist in a high‑growth startup.
Our team is small, agile, and deeply committed to learning and delivering high impact. We’re looking for a Customer Engineering Associate who can dive into a blend of support, operations, and product ownership from day one, working side‑by‑side with founders and influencing the direction of the company.
The Role
Imagine launching an online portal that automates customer onboarding. You’re the human behind that portal – the first point of contact when a customer has a question, needs help, or wants to unlock more value from the product. In this role, you’ll own a slice of brighthush’s core operations: customer support, data sample creation, our HubSpot instance, and any new initiatives that arise. Though it’s an entry‑level position, it comes with an unusual amount of ownership. You’ll work directly with the founders, touch every part of the company, and have real customers and real systems depending on you within your first month.
The B2B data industry is being rewritten by AI right now. You’ll be learning a landscape that evolves every month, and that’s the fun of it.
Key Responsibilities
- First‑Responder for Onboarding Portal – Diagnose customer needs, collaborate with engineering, and drive issues to resolution.
- Support Inbox & Ticketing System Owner – Manage the entire support queue, ensuring timely, accurate, and empathetic responses.
- Data Sample Creation – Build and validate data samples for prospects and customers, developing deep domain knowledge to spot anomalies.
- HubSpot Champion – Oversee lead routing, round‑robin assignments, list hygiene, and automation tuning as the business scales.
- Operations Steward – Keep billing, invoicing, and other operational processes running smoothly.
- Continuous Improvement – Identify and fix gaps that no one else has time to catch; grow the role as fast as you do.
What Success Looks Like
First 90 Days
- Master the product, data, and every customer’s journey.
- Run the support queue flawlessly – customers receive fast, clear, and accurate answers.
- Build data samples independently and manage HubSpot day‑to‑day.
By Six Months
- Fully own customer support: every request tracked, answered, or routed, with customers recognizing you by name.
- Shape the self‑serve sample tools based on hands‑on experience.
- Improve or fix at least one process or feature that was never formally requested.
Who You Are
- High Agency – You start before you’re asked. When you don’t know how to do something, you try, not wait.
- Fast Learner – You climb learning curves quickly. New to HubSpot or APIs? You’ll master them in weeks.
- Detail‑Obsessed – You notice typos, off‑by‑one errors, and mismatched numbers. In a data company, details are the product.
- Juggler – You can hold a support queue, two sample requests, and a HubSpot change in your head without dropping anything.
- People‑Centric – Customers enjoy talking to you; engineers appreciate your collaboration. On a small team, you’ll work closely with everyone.
- Clear Writer – Much of this job is written communication – support replies, status updates, follow‑ups. People understand you the first time.
- Hungry – You want to help build a company, not just fill a seat.
This role is probably not for you if you want a highly structured job with a formal training program. Here, the team teaches you everything it knows and then expects you to run with it.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) completed by start date – any major. We value evidence of drive: campus leadership, internships, side projects, or a job you held through school.
- Comfortable with technology and curious about technical topics (APIs, data, spreadsheets). You don’t need to code, but you’re willing to dive into the weeds.
- Boston‑area resident, able to be in person with the team X days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HubSpot or similar CRM platforms.
- Prior customer support or technical support role.
- Exposure to B2B data or AI products.
- Strong analytical mindset and problem‑solving skills.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional written and verbal communication.
- Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, data visualization, and basic data manipulation.
- Adaptability to rapid change and ambiguity.
- Collaboration across cross‑functional teams.
Career Growth & Learning
At brighthush, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across product, engineering, sales, and operations. You’ll:
- Learn how a B2B data company actually works – the product, the data, and the AI tools built on top.
- Develop customer‑facing skills that most people don’t get until year five: running support, managing accounts, handling hard conversations.
- Master the modern GTM stack – HubSpot, ticketing tools, data pipelines, APIs.
- Understand how a startup runs from the inside, across every function – sales, product, engineering, and operations – in your first quarter.
Work Environment & Culture
brighthush is a tight‑knit, high‑energy team that values transparency, experimentation, and ownership. We celebrate wins, learn from failures, and always keep the customer at the center of everything we do. Our culture is built on:
- Direct Access – You’ll work with the founders every day.
- Real Ownership – You own functions, not tasks. As we scale, the people who built the functions run them.
- Fast‑Paced Innovation – We iterate quickly, test ideas, and pivot when necessary.
- Inclusive Collaboration – Everyone’s voice matters, and we encourage cross‑functional teamwork.
Compensation & Perks
While specific numbers vary, we offer a competitive salary that reflects your impact and experience. In addition, you’ll enjoy:
- Health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Generous paid time off (PTO) and flexible leave policies.
- Unlimited personal and professional development budget.
- Equity participation – you’ll own a piece of the company’s future.
- Remote‑friendly work model with occasional in‑office collaboration.
- Team‑building events, hackathons, and learning workshops.
How to Apply
Send your resume and a short answer (a paragraph is plenty) to the following question:
Tell us about something you built, ran, or fixed that nobody asked you to.
We read every answer. The answer matters more than the resume.
