🌍 Remote · United States
💼 Full-time
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. CloudIQ Technologies provides cloud management, infrastructure and application migration, application modernization, and data analytics engineering services across Azure, AWS, and Kubernetes. The QA Automation Engineer will build and own automation frameworks using WebdriverIO and Playwright, maintain Selenium suites, and lead application test migration. The role also involves creating UI and API tests, integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines, improving test stability, and guiding other QA engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own automation frameworks using WebdriverIO and Playwright, and maintain existing Selenium-based suites
- Lead the porting of existing application test suites onto the new framework, including planning, execution, and coverage validation
- Write clean, maintainable automated tests for UI and API layers
- Use Claude and OpenSpec-driven workflows to define test specifications, generate scaffolding, and speed up migration work, while keeping code quality high
- Integrate test suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps) with reliable reporting
- Analyze requirements and user stories to define test scenarios for functional, regression, and end-to-end coverage
- Debug and fix flaky tests, and continuously improve execution speed and stability
- Log and track defects in Jira and work closely with developers through resolution
- Document framework usage and conventions, and guide other QA engineers in adopting them
Skills
- Experience: 3–5 years (hands-on) or more
- Require no visa dependency
- Proven experience designing and building automation frameworks from scratch: project structure, configuration, reusable utilities, reporting, logging, and environment handling
- Strong command of design patterns such as Page Object Model, Screenplay, data-driven, and hybrid frameworks
- Ability to make and justify tool and architecture choices for a given application and team
- Hands-on experience setting up and configuring WebdriverIO (wdio.conf, services, reporters, capabilities)
- Writing tests in JavaScript/TypeScript with Mocha, Jasmine, or Cucumber
- Parallel execution, custom commands, and integration with cloud grids
- Hands-on experience building Playwright test suites in TypeScript/JavaScript (Python or Java also acceptable)
- Strong use of fixtures, auto-waiting, locator strategies, network interception, and API testing within Playwright
- Cross-browser execution, trace viewer, and parallel/sharded runs
- Solid experience with Selenium WebDriver (Java, Python, or JavaScript) and Selenium Grid
- Understanding of Selenium-based framework structures (TestNG/JUnit/PyTest) and their limitations
- Experience porting existing test suites between frameworks, for example Selenium to Playwright or Selenium to WebdriverIO
- Ability to assess an existing test suite, identify what to migrate, refactor, or retire, and plan a phased migration without losing coverage
- Mapping existing locators, waits, test data, and utilities to the new framework's conventions
- Validating parity between old and new suites and stabilizing flaky tests during migration
- Working knowledge of using Claude (Claude Code or Claude chat) for generating, refactoring, and reviewing test code
- Familiarity with OpenSpec or similar spec-driven development workflows: writing clear specs and change proposals that guide AI-assisted implementation
- Ability to critically review AI-generated code for correctness, maintainability, and alignment with framework standards
- Using AI tools effectively to accelerate framework setup and large-scale test migration
- Strong programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript (primary); Java or Python is a plus
- API testing experience (Playwright API testing, RestAssured, Postman, or similar)
- Git and branching workflows
- Good understanding of SDLC, STLC, and Agile/Scrum practices
- SQL for basic data validation
- Strong debugging, analytical, and communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Java or Python is a plus
- Mobile automation with Appium (WebdriverIO + Appium is a plus)
