Remote Senior ServiceNow Developer – Enterprise IT Customer Support & Service Management Solutions

🌍 Remote · United States 💼 Full-time

About brighthush and the Opportunity

brighthush is a forward‑thinking, government‑focused technology partner that delivers cutting‑edge IT Service Management (ITSM) solutions to the Department of War, DoD, and Intelligence Community. With a proven track record of building secure, scalable, and compliant ServiceNow applications, brighthush empowers mission‑critical agencies to streamline operations, enhance customer experience, and meet stringent federal security requirements.

We are seeking a seasoned ServiceNow Developer to join our remote team in the United States. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of custom applications, workflows, and integrations that drive efficiency across incident, request, and change management processes. Your work will directly impact the ability of federal agencies to serve their constituents with speed, reliability, and transparency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application Design & Development: Build and maintain custom ServiceNow applications, modules, and workflows—including forms, business rules, client scripts, UI policies, script includes, Flow Designer flows, scripted REST APIs, and integrations—aligned with the government‑prioritized backlog.
  • Ticket Lifecycle Management: Implement and sustain enterprise ticket lifecycle workflows, including the Customer‑Confirmed Ticket Closure process. Automate notifications, confirm/reopen actions, and enforce automatic closure after three business days across incident and request management for all tiers.
  • Service Catalog & CMDB: Develop a user‑friendly Service Catalog with automated request fulfillment workflows. Support CMDB accuracy and integrity through discovery, integrations, and data quality rules.
  • Agile Sprint Leadership: Refine and estimate backlog items, agree on sprint scope with government stakeholders, conduct internal QA, deliver demonstrations of completed work, support UAT, and secure documented acceptance before closing tasks.
  • Compliance & Security: Adhere to platform development best practices, secure coding standards, NIST SP 800‑218 SSDF practices, and federal security guidelines. Perform code reviews and deliver compliant update sets/application packages for deployment.
  • Change & Release Management: Participate in Problem, Change, and Release Management processes. Conduct impact analysis, provide test evidence, write release notes, and develop rollback plans.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with UX Designers, Automation Engineers, Data/BI Developers, and Knowledge Management teams on Service Portal, Virtual Agent, Performance Analytics, and dashboard integrations that improve Tier 0 deflection and user experience.
  • Mentorship & Documentation: Mentor junior developers and testers, maintain technical design documentation and development standards, and provide status updates and automation recommendations to the Monthly Customer Support Activity Report and CX Roadmap.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience. A Master’s degree with eight years of experience, or four additional years of experience in lieu of a degree, may substitute.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance (preferably adjudicated T3/T3R) at the time of hire.
  • Minimum of ten years of software development experience, with at least five years on ServiceNow or an equivalent enterprise ITSM platform.
  • Expert proficiency in ServiceNow scripting (JavaScript server‑ and client‑side), Flow Designer, IntegrationHub, Service Catalog, Service Portal, and CMDB, including update set/application lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze complex problems, determine appropriate courses of action, and exercise discretion with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present solutions to government stakeholders and translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer, Certified System Administrator, and Certified Implementation Specialist (ITSM, CSM, or Discovery). ITIL 4 Foundation certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating ServiceNow with external systems via REST/SOAP APIs, LDAP/Active Directory, and event/monitoring sources.
  • Hands‑on experience with ServiceNow Virtual Agent, Predictive Intelligence, Performance Analytics, and Now Assist in a Government (GCC/IL5) instance.
  • Familiarity with customer experience (CX) measurement, including CSAT, Customer Effort Score (CES), and experience level agreements (XLAs).
  • Experience supporting Department of War (DoW), DoD, or Intelligence Community IT environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 20000‑1 aligned process design and Power BI integration.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or CSSLP certification.
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring developers and producing technical design documentation.
  • Experience delivering in an Agile framework with sprint demonstrations, UAT, and formal stakeholder acceptance, including working within a platform‑owner‑controlled deployment model.
  • Experience applying secure coding standards and federal security requirements to application development.

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced JavaScript and ServiceNow platform expertise.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent project management and sprint planning skills.
