Senior Staff Software Engineer – Customer Platform & API Integration Lead (Go, Cloud, AI)
About brighthush and the Future of Secure Software Supply Chains
At brighthush, we are redefining how enterprises protect and accelerate their software development lifecycles. By delivering hardened, production‑ready builds of the open source components that power modern applications, we enable organizations to innovate faster, stay compliant, and eliminate risk. Our customers span Fortune 500 enterprises and global industry leaders—from advanced defense contractors to creative tech giants—trusting us to safeguard their most critical assets.
brighthush is a venture‑backed, fast‑growing company that thrives on collaboration, experimentation, and a relentless focus on customer value. We are building a platform that sits at the heart of every customer, partner, and internal product line, providing the APIs, entitlements, policies, and platform primitives that make secure software delivery possible. If you are passionate about building scalable, high‑impact systems and want to be the technical anchor for a team that touches every corner of the company, we want to hear from you.
Role Overview
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Customer Platform team, you will own complex, end‑to‑end feature development—from conceptual design through production rollout and continuous iteration. You will collaborate closely with Product Management, partner engineering teams, and cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver a seamless, secure experience for our customers. Your technical leadership will shape the architecture, drive best practices, and mentor the next generation of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Full‑Lifecycle Ownership: Design, implement, test, and ship features that span API design, backend services, and customer onboarding flows. Own the feature from inception to post‑launch monitoring.
- API & Backend Architecture: Build and evolve high‑throughput, low‑latency REST/gRPC APIs in Go that power entitlement, policy enforcement, and onboarding services. Ensure scalability, observability, and resilience.
- Cross‑Team Integration: Serve as the primary technical liaison between Customer Platform and other brighthush engineering domains (Containers, Libraries, OS Packages). Translate requirements into robust integration paths and shared infrastructure.
- AI‑Powered Product Enablement: Extend brighthush’s agentic AI foundation into customer‑facing experiences, leveraging machine learning models to enhance policy decisions and user workflows.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Guide senior and mid‑level engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, clarity, and rapid iteration. Provide architectural reviews, code critiques, and career coaching.
- Roadmap & Prioritization: Contribute to a product‑driven roadmap with clear deadlines. Help the team balance trade‑offs, prioritize impact, and ship incremental releases rather than waiting for perfection.
- Operational Excellence: Own the reliability, performance, and security of production systems. Define SLAs, monitor metrics, and drive incident response improvements.
- Innovation & Thought Leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends in cloud‑native architecture, API security, and AI integration. Advocate for new tools, frameworks, and processes that elevate the engineering organization.
Essential Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend systems.
- Proficiency in Go and experience building large‑scale, production‑grade APIs (REST and gRPC).
- Deep understanding of API design principles, versioning strategies, and contract‑first development.
- Track record of shipping and operating services at scale, with measurable impact on performance, reliability, or customer satisfaction.
- Experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams, aligning on technical standards and integration patterns.
- Strong problem‑solving skills: diagnose ambiguity, propose actionable solutions, and drive execution.
- Demonstrated mentorship and leadership—guiding engineers without formal management responsibilities.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, cloud provider APIs (AWS, GCP, Azure), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with entitlement, billing, or platform infrastructure is a plus.
- Prior exposure to building or extending AI‑powered product features is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience with policy engines (OPA, Rego) or similar policy‑as‑code frameworks.
- Knowledge of secure software supply chain concepts—SBOMs, provenance, and build integrity.
- Background in building SaaS products with multi‑tenant architecture.
- Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) and distributed tracing.
- Published open‑source contributions or speaking engagements at industry conferences.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Technical Excellence: Mastery of Go, gRPC, REST, and microservices patterns.
- System Design: Ability to architect highly available, fault‑tolerant services that meet strict SLAs.
- Security Mindset: Deep understanding of authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices.
- Cloud‑Native Proficiency: Expertise in Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud provider services.
