Senior Staff Software Engineer – Customer Platform & API Integration Lead (Go, Cloud, AI) – Architecting Secure, Scalable Software Delivery at brighthush
About brighthush and the Future of Secure Software Supply Chains
In an era where software is the backbone of every industry, the security and reliability of the code that powers critical systems have never been more paramount. At brighthush, we are pioneering a new paradigm for secure software supply chains, turning the traditional risk‑heavy process of integrating open‑source components into a streamlined, hardened, and production‑ready workflow. Our mission is simple yet ambitious: empower enterprises—whether they are Fortune 500 giants, defense contractors, or creative tech leaders—to innovate faster, stay compliant, and eliminate the hidden vulnerabilities that can cripple a product.
We do this by delivering hardened, production‑ready builds of the open‑source components that form the foundation of modern applications. These builds are rigorously tested, signed, and continuously monitored, ensuring that every line of code that reaches a customer’s environment meets the highest standards of security and performance. The result? Faster time‑to‑market, reduced compliance overhead, and a dramatically lower risk profile for our clients.
Our culture is built on collaboration, experimentation, and a relentless focus on customer value. We are a remote‑first, fast‑growing company that thrives on the energy of a diverse, inclusive community of engineers, product managers, and designers—all united by a shared passion for building systems that matter.
Role Overview
As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Customer Platform team, you will be the technical anchor for a suite of products that sit at the heart of every customer, partner, and internal product line. You will own complex, end‑to‑end feature development—from conceptual design through production rollout and continuous iteration—while collaborating closely with Product Management, partner engineering teams, and cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver a seamless, secure experience for our customers.
Your influence will shape the architecture of our platform, drive best practices across the organization, and mentor the next generation of engineers. You will be the go‑to expert for high‑impact systems that touch every corner of the company, ensuring that our platform remains scalable, resilient, and future‑proof.
Key Responsibilities
- Full‑Lifecycle Ownership: Design, implement, test, and ship features that span API design, backend services, and customer onboarding flows. Own the feature from inception to post‑launch monitoring, ensuring a smooth handoff to operations and a clear path for continuous improvement.
- API & Backend Architecture: Build and evolve high‑throughput, low‑latency REST/gRPC APIs in Go that power entitlement, policy enforcement, and onboarding services. Champion scalability, observability, and resilience, and drive architectural decisions that keep our platform future‑ready.
- Cross‑Team Integration: Serve as the primary technical liaison between Customer Platform and other engineering domains (Containers, Libraries, OS Packages). Translate requirements into robust integration paths and shared infrastructure, ensuring a cohesive ecosystem.
- AI‑Powered Product Enablement: Extend the platform’s agentic AI foundation into customer‑facing experiences, leveraging machine learning models to enhance policy decisions, automate workflows, and deliver intelligent insights.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Guide senior and mid‑level engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, clarity, and rapid iteration. Provide architectural reviews, code critiques, and career coaching to help engineers grow.
- Roadmap & Prioritization: Contribute to a product‑driven roadmap with clear deadlines. Help the team balance trade‑offs, prioritize impact, and ship incremental releases rather than waiting for perfection.
- Operational Excellence: Own the reliability, performance, and security of production systems. Define SLAs, monitor metrics, and drive incident response improvements to keep uptime high and customer trust strong.
- Innovation & Thought Leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends in cloud‑native architecture, API security, and AI integration. Advocate for new tools, frameworks, and processes that elevate the engineering organization.
Essential Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend systems.
- Proficiency in Go and experience building large‑scale, production‑grade APIs (REST and gRPC).
- Deep understanding of API design principles, versioning strategies, and contract‑first development.
- Track record of shipping and operating services at scale, with measurable impact on performance, reliability, or customer satisfaction.
- Experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams, aligning on technical standards and integration patterns.
