Key Responsibilities

As an Associate Consultant, you will be a vital member of multidisciplinary project teams that deliver high‑quality research and analytics to utility clients. Your day‑to‑day work will involve:

  • Designing and refining interview guides, survey instruments, focus group protocols, and other data‑collection tools.
  • Conducting in‑depth interviews with program staff and stakeholders, after shadowing senior team members to understand context and nuances.
  • Collecting, cleaning, and organizing qualitative and quantitative data from a variety of sources—including primary interviews, focus groups, surveys, and secondary datasets.
  • Applying basic statistical concepts and analytical tools (Excel, R, Python, SPSS, Stata) to transform raw data into meaningful insights.
  • Documenting methodologies, assumptions, and analytical decisions in a transparent, reproducible manner.
  • Performing quality‑control checks on your own work and incorporating feedback from reviewers to ensure deliverables meet brighthush’s high standards.
  • Creating clear, visually engaging data visualizations, tables, and graphics that support client presentations and reports.
  • Collaborating closely with senior consultants, project managers, subject‑matter experts, engineers, and data scientists to interpret findings and shape client‑ready deliverables.
  • Managing your own workload, tracking progress against deadlines, and communicating status, questions, and risks proactively to project leads.
  • Participating in cross‑functional workshops and knowledge‑sharing sessions to stay current on industry trends and emerging analytical techniques.

Essential Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who bring a blend of academic rigor, analytical curiosity, and a genuine interest in the energy sector. The core qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in social science, economics, statistics, engineering, or a related field, with up to two years of relevant experience in applied research, program evaluation, or data analytics.
  • Hands‑on experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including familiarity with Excel and at least one statistical or programming tool such as R, Python, SPSS, or Stata.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the discipline to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • A proactive mindset—eager to ask questions, seek feedback, and take ownership of your work.
  • Authorization to work in the United States or Canada; we are not able to sponsor work visas at this time.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following experiences and skills will set you apart:

  • Direct involvement in primary data collection—interviews, focus groups, or surveys—during academic projects or internships.
  • Experience creating data visualizations or summarizing research findings for non‑technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with collaborative tools such as SharePoint or Teams.
  • Exposure to the utility or energy industry, including knowledge of energy efficiency programs, load flexibility, electrification, or distributed energy resources.
  • Experience with data‑cleaning pipelines, data aggregation, or database management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams and adapt to evolving project requirements.
