This role involves setting the technical vision for a front-end platform, driving architecture and tooling across multiple teams, and operating at the intersection of engineering, product, and design. Job title Principal Front End Engineer Company MeeBoss Location Remote Compensation $50-55/hour Why this role This role offers the opportunity to set the technical direction for a brand-new platform and drive its architecture, tooling, and delivery. You will serve as a force multiplier for the engineering organization, raising the technical bar through mentorship and architecture reviews while defining the roadmap for new projects. What you will do Own and evolve the front-end architecture, setting technical direction that supports a multi-year roadmap. Partner with Product, Design, and QA leadership to shape strategic priorities and influence what gets built. Set standards for performance, scalability, accessibility, and responsive design, building tooling and guardrails to support these goals. Define and drive adoption of documentation, coding standards, and architectural best practices across the front-end organization. Lead the rationalization and componentization of the styling architecture, establishing opinionated standards for Tailwind CSS usage. Define strategies for SEO, site analytics, A/B testing, and monitoring, selecting tools and driving org-wide adoption. Serve as a technical escalation point and thought partner for other engineering leads in architecture and technical steering discussions. Own the integration contract between the front end and backend systems, setting and enforcing integration standards. Define and enforce the process and quality bar for front-end work to ensure features meet design and product specifications before shipping. Champion the use of AI tools across the software development lifecycle, including architecture, code reviews, and test creation. Enable designers and product managers to contribute directly to the codebase using AI tools. What we are looking for 12+ years of experience building and scaling production front-end systems, including React and its ecosystem, with a track record of setting technical direction. Deep expertise in React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, with the judgment to know when to deviate from convention. Deep, opinionated expertise in Tailwind CSS, including strong views on best practices for rationalizing and componentizing large-scale codebases. Demonstrated experience influencing technical strategy across multiple teams or a full engineering organization. Strong track record of mentoring and growing senior/staff-level engineers. Comfort operating in ambiguity, defining problems and roadmaps rather than just solving pre-defined tickets. Fluency in UI/UX principles and cross-browser/performance considerations, with the ability to set standards for other engineers. Experience integrating deeply with modern search platforms (e.g., Algolia) on the client side. Strong experience with A/B testing and feature flag systems, enabling teams to run experiments without constant reliance on engineering. Deep knowledge of linting and static analysis (ESLint) and end-to-end testing with Playwright. Experience building e-commerce customer portals at scale. Experience leading front-end architecture decisions for platforms serving high concurrent traffic. Experience using AI tools to improve efficiency in software architecture, code reviews, and software testing.
