Remote Position
[Remote] Subject Matter Expert for Cyber Security Risk & Executive Accountability
π Remote Β· United States
πΌ Full-time
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Western Governors University (WGU) is hiring a Subject Matter Expert to help design and build a graduate course on cybersecurity risk and executive accountability for its MBA in Information Technology Management. The role involves developing realistic performance-assessment scenarios, validating course content, and advising on assessment alignment and rubric language.
Responsibilities
- Consult on skills and competencies needed in a masters level course to prepare students for the workplace
- Author realistic, original case scenarios for performance assessments, including the exhibits learners interpret (for example, an incident timeline, a risk register, and a vendor exposure summary)
- Build staged incident scenarios in which facts are released at fixed decision points, identical for every learner, so that executive decisions can be judged as information changes
- Include a supplier or cloud-provider dependency in every risk-assessment scenario, with enough detail to evidence third-party risk reasoning
- Write model reasoning for each scenario: what a strong answer prioritizes and trades off, what a weak answer looks like, and where genuine ambiguity remains so that no single answer quietly dominates
- Review and correct draft formative scenarios and learning-resource selections prepared by the design team. Treat them as starting points. Flag anything that reads as generic, unrealistic, outdated, or traceable to a real company or publicly reported incident
- Verify the currency and accuracy of any frameworks, regulatory obligations, and disclosure expectations used in the course (for example NIST CSF and ISO/IEC 27001 at leadership level)
- Verify any numerical content in scenarios, such as exposure estimates and cost figures, so the arithmetic and assumptions hold
- Work with the assessment team and instructional designers to confirm that scenarios elicit the evidence the evidence statements require, and to give feedback on rubric language
Skills
- Must reside in the United States
- 5 or more years of experience in cybersecurity management, enterprise risk, or security governance, including direct experience presenting to executives or a board
- Bachelor's degree in a Cyber, or IT/CS field
- Demonstrated experience leading or advising on the executive side of a significant cyber incident (decision-making, notification, escalation, stakeholder communication), not only technical response
- Working knowledge of third-party and supply-chain risk management and of how cyber risk is expressed in financial terms
- Ability to write clear, original case material for adult learners, and to explain the reasoning behind a judgment call
- Willingness to work from a defined course structure and assessment standard, and to revise on feedback
- Experience as a CISO, deputy CISO, chief risk officer, internal auditor, or board risk-committee advisor
- Certifications such as CISM, CISSP, or CRISC
- Prior experience writing case studies, tabletop exercises, assessments, or curriculum for graduate or professional learners
- Experience with competency-based education
Benefits
- 100% remote
