We're a close-knit, collaborative team that values quality work, clear communication, and building genuine relationships with our clients. We take pride in providing personalized service while maintaining a supportive and flexible work environment for our team. We're looking for an experienced Seasonal Senior Tax Reviewer to join us for the 2027 tax season!

About the Role

We're seeking a highly experienced tax professional with a strong background in public accounting who can independently review individual and business tax returns, navigate complex tax situations, and serve as a technical resource for our tax preparation team. This is a senior-level review position designed for someone who has extensive experience reviewing returns, exercises sound professional judgment, and can confidently identify issues without requiring significant oversight. The ideal candidate is thorough, efficient, and comfortable managing a steady volume of returns during tax season while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Independently perform detailed technical reviews of federal and state individual tax returns (Form 1040), including returns involving pass-through income, rental properties, investments, and self-employment. Review business tax returns, primarily S Corporations (Form 1120-S) and Partnerships (Form 1065), including more complex tax situations. Identify technical errors, inconsistencies, missed deductions, compliance concerns, and potential tax planning opportunities. Evaluate complex tax matters, including shareholder basis, distributions, reasonable compensation, and pass-through entity taxation. Review supporting workpapers, reconciliations, and documentation to ensure accuracy and appropriate tax treatment. Provide clear, constructive, and actionable review notes to tax preparers. Serve as a technical resource to the tax team, helping resolve questions and providing guidance on complex tax issues. Conduct tax research and apply current federal and state tax laws when needed. Help maintain an efficient review process by managing deadlines, prioritizing returns, and minimizing unnecessary back-and-forth.

Qualifications

Minimum of 8 years of tax preparation/review experience, with substantial experience independently reviewing individual and business tax returns. CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred. Advanced knowledge of federal individual and business taxation, particularly S Corporations, Partnerships, and pass-through entities. Demonstrated experience reviewing complex individual returns involving multiple income sources, business ownership, and multi-state filing requirements. Strong understanding of shareholder basis, distributions, business deductions, and other common small business tax considerations. Proven ability to identify technical issues, exercise independent judgment, and deliver accurate reviews with minimal supervision. Experience providing review notes, guidance, and technical support to tax preparers. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple returns and deadlines during a busy tax season. Strong written communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach. Experience with Intuit ProConnect Tax is a plus.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a seasoned tax professional who can step into the role with confidence and contribute immediately. The right person has spent years working through a wide variety of tax situations and knows how to balance technical accuracy with efficiency. They can distinguish between material issues and minor adjustments, provide thoughtful feedback, and help keep returns moving through the review process. Just as importantly, we're looking for someone who is approachable, dependable, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team. We value professionals who take ownership of their work, communicate proactively, and are comfortable working independently in a remote environment. Why Join Flax CPA? Competitive Compensation: $70 to $90 per hour, depending on experience. 100% Remote: Work from anywhere in the U.S. Flexible Schedule: Seasonal hours that can accommodate your availability.
