At brighthush, we believe that the best solutions arise when technology meets deep domain expertise, and we are dedicated to building products that truly transform how our clients work.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Applied AI Software Engineer on our Applied AI team, you will be at the forefront of designing and delivering AI‑driven solutions that directly impact our most strategic clients. Your day‑to‑day work will involve immersing yourself in a client’s business, identifying opportunities where AI can add value, prototyping cutting‑edge agentic systems, and partnering with our core engineering teams to ship production‑ready features that benefit all of brighthush’s customers.
We are building a high‑impact team that will shape the future of our product portfolio. Your contributions will set the direction for how we integrate AI across the platform, influence the architecture of our agent frameworks, and define the standards for reliability, cost, and performance that our clients expect.
Because our clients operate across multiple time zones, this role may require occasional work outside standard business hours and up to 15 % travel—including overnight and multi‑day engagements—to meet with stakeholders and gather real‑world feedback.
Applicants must have the right to work in the United Kingdom from day one. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- End‑to‑End AI Agent Development: From problem discovery with domain experts to rapid prototyping, rigorous evaluation, and production deployment, you will build AI‑powered agents that solve real business challenges.
- LLM Integration & Prompt Engineering: Design and implement large‑language‑model (LLM) pipelines, including prompt crafting, function calling, structured outputs, and retrieval‑augmented workflows that deliver accurate, context‑aware responses.
- Evaluation & Test Harnesses: Define domain‑specific evaluation criteria, build automated test harnesses, and iterate until the AI system meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Client‑Centric Collaboration: Work directly with clients to understand their workflows, validate AI behavior in situ, and refine solutions based on real‑time feedback.
- Product Generalization: Partner with core engineering teams to abstract client‑specific work into reusable product features that scale across the brighthush platform.
- Infrastructure & Deployment: Contribute to shared AI infrastructure—including agent frameworks, tool integrations, and deployment pipelines—ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Production Monitoring: Monitor live AI systems, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve performance, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness.
Essential Qualifications
- Proven professional software engineering experience, with a strong portfolio of delivered projects.
- Expertise in Python, the primary language used across our AI and core engineering teams.
- Hands‑on experience with LLM APIs (Claude, GPT, or equivalent), including function calling, structured outputs, and prompt engineering.
- Strong SQL skills for data exploration, feature engineering, and building data‑grounded AI workflows.
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) that accelerate coding and debugging.
- Demonstrated ability to build a product from concept to production, with a bias for action and rapid iteration.
- Commitment to client experience: you care about the end‑user’s journey as much as the code you write.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and deploying agentic systems that orchestrate multi‑step tool use and durable workflows.
- Proficiency in additional backend languages, particularly Java, which is valuable in our environment.
- Knowledge of financial data structures—portfolios, transactions, securities, accounting—enabling deeper domain insight.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS) and container‑based deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with evaluation frameworks or methodologies for measuring AI system quality, including bias, fairness, and robustness.
Skills & Competencies
- Technical Proficiency: Python, SQL, LLM APIs, prompt engineering, function calling, structured outputs, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Java (preferred).
- Problem‑Solving: Ability to translate complex business problems into technical solutions, iterate quickly, and validate against real‑world data.
- Collaboration: Comfortable working cross‑functionally with product managers, data scientists, and client stakeholders.
- Communication: Clear articulation of technical concepts to non‑technical audiences, and concise documentation of design decisions.
- Ownership: A proactive mindset that takes responsibility for end‑to‑end delivery, from ideation to post‑deployment support.
- Learning Agility: Eagerness to stay current with emerging AI research, tools, and industry best practices.
