The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on our Applied AI team, you will be the bridge between cutting‑edge research and real‑world impact. You will work side‑by‑side with brighthush’s strategic clients to identify opportunities where AI can transform their operations, prototype solutions, and ship production‑grade systems that scale across our entire customer base.

Our team is small, fast‑moving, and highly collaborative. Your work will shape the future of brighthush’s product portfolio, and you will have the chance to influence the direction of our AI initiatives from the ground up. You will be responsible for end‑to‑end delivery of agentic systems, from problem discovery to production monitoring.

Because our clients operate across multiple time zones, this role may require occasional work outside standard business hours and up to 15% travel to client sites, including overnight and multi‑day engagements.

What You’ll Do

• Build AI‑Powered Agents and Tools End‑to‑End – Identify high‑impact problems with clients and domain experts, prototype quickly, evaluate rigorously, and ship to production.
• Design and Implement LLM Integrations – Craft prompt engineering strategies, function calling, structured outputs, and retrieval‑augmented workflows that deliver reliable, context‑aware responses.
• Define Evaluation Criteria and Build Test Harnesses – Create robust metrics and automated test suites for AI systems where correctness is ambiguous and domain‑specific.
• Client‑Centric Collaboration – Work directly with clients to understand their workflows, validate AI behavior, and iterate toward production‑ready quality.
• Generalize Client‑Specific Work into Product Features – Partner with brighthush’s core engineering teams to transform bespoke solutions into reusable, scalable product components.
• Contribute to Shared AI Infrastructure – Help build and maintain agent frameworks, tool integrations, and deployment pipelines that serve the entire organization.
• Monitor and Maintain Production AI Systems – Ensure reliability, cost‑efficiency, and performance through continuous monitoring, logging, and optimization.

Who You Are

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of delivering production‑grade code.
• Proficiency in Python, the primary language used across our AI stack.
• Hands‑on experience with LLM APIs (brighthush, brighthush, or similar), including function calling, structured outputs, and prompt engineering.
• Comfortable with SQL for data exploration, feature engineering, and building data‑grounded AI workflows.
• Experience with AI‑assisted development tools (brighthush, brighthush, or similar) that accelerate coding and debugging.
• A proven ability to take an idea from zero to one – you thrive on figuring out what to build, not just following specifications.

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary – $188,000 to $235,000 USD, commensurate with experience and market conditions.
